Even so, I know I was thinner before I got the IUDS and my doctor did say a weight gain of this magnitude was to be expected. Also, I was wondering if it's a higher risk of cervical cancer since it's "inside"? It worked in preventing the cramps, but as soon as she went off of it for just 2 months, the cramps came back, and she started to gain weight. I usually experience weight gain and moodiness. Weight gain. My daughter went on the Nuvaring when she was 14 years old, because she had terrible cramps with her periods.

I normally hate birth control (having tried the patch, shot and three versions of the pill). After four months of headaches, I finally gave up. I haven't had any weight gain, mood swings, or loss of sex drive like I did with the Nuvaring (I HATED the NR! Thread starter ZT27; Start date Mar 20, 2005; Z. ZT27 Cathlete. Thanks! I reckon I've put on about 3 stone/42lbs worth of weight due to this one method of birth control alone but it's debatable given that I'm already overweight as is.
Nuvaring has the same contraceptive efficacy as the Pill with lower systemic estrogen exposure, more consistent serum estrogen levels and better cycle control, but more local adverse events resulting in higher discontinuation rates.
The birth control with just progesterone is supposed to be better for not causing headaches, but it also causes big time weight gain, soooo, haven't tried that out yet.
